Netaji’s Birthday and Our Good Old Days
Netaji’s Birthday and Our Good Old Days
Netaji means leader. But in our country, Netaji is not only a word or term but an idea that changed the point of view of Indian youth when the nation was tied by the British rulers.
When I was in school, 23rd January was a day to remember. Me and my friends used to decorate a certain area in school compound to celebrate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday.
All the students and teachers used to gather at the celebration corner. The celebration included national flag hoisting followed by national anthem. Next, our school principal uses to deliver a speech on Netaji. I used to listen to those words.
The stories of the man’s bravery always fascinated me. All of us used to get biscuits and sweets after the celebration that day.
Maybe the arrangements were not that big on those days but our emotions were deep. All our thoughts and feelings for the great leader were genuine.
At my locality also, the local club used to decorate the local field. To celebrate his birthday, our club used to organize sports. I was a kid back then and all the other kids used to participate to be a winner.
Those were truly the golden days. This is why, somehow, I feel that Netaji acquires a major place in my childhood. My childhood was blessed to know the man. Netaji is not only a National hero but my childhood hero too who made me learn about the love for country.
